The Early Learning Coalition of Alachua County  is a non-profit organization that works to ensure children are ready to begin school. ELCAC provides excellent early care and education opportunities to children, ages birth to 5  in Alachua County.

Our team strongly values education and continuing the learning process throughout ones entire life. We love the idea of helping young kids in need get the best possible resources and opportunities at the beginning of their educational lives.

GRACE Marketplace

GRACE Marketplace

GRACE is on a mission to end homelessness in Gainesville. Beyond being a 131 bed emergency shelter, they offer an innovative approach to serving the needs of the unhoused by placing providers under one roof to make social services more accessible--and it’s working. GRACE is helping people get housed and stay housed.

Why we chose this charity:

As of the latest 2016 count, over 1,400 people are homeless in the Alachua County area. This includes over 525 children. We feel that helping our local community rebuild is important to everyone’s future.

St. Jude Children's Hospital

It’s St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s mission to cure and prevent pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. At St. Jude’s, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.

St. Jude has increased the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to more than 80%, with a goal of 90% by the next decade. This great organization continues to heal children, giving them new hope every day.

Alachua Conservation Trust

The Alachua Conservation Trust protects the natural, historic, scenic and recreational resources in and around Alachua County, Florida. Protected properties include the Historic Haile Homestead, Prairie Creek Preserve, among many others.

Why we chose this charity:

Preserving the natural and historic environment is key to maintaining the cultural beauty and integrity of where we work and live. Preserving such places provides both education and enjoyment to ourselves and passes on a legacy to future generations.

As Josh Greenberg influenced not only Digital Brands as a company, but the city of Gainesville itself. The United Way of North Central Florida and their focus on children’s education was a way we could give back in his memory.

The Alachua County Humane Society was also a charity that was dear to Josh Greenberg. In his memory, we have donated as his focus was not only on helping individuals in the Gainesville community but also on animal care.

Besides all the work they do in partnership with Equality Florida for protection, equality, and inclusion of LGBTQ people at the local and state level, they work directly with LGBTQ youth in the community.

The Hope Lodge provides temporary residence for patients who travel to Gainesville, FL for outpatient cancer treatment. Patients receive support from professionals, families, friends and other patients for their personal battle against cancer.

Cancer affects not just families like mine, but so many others. It means a lot that there are places that not only treat the cancer, but welcome the caregivers and show them that they are important in the ongoing process.

UF Center for Autism and Related Disabilities

The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) provides support and assistance with the goal of optimizing the potential of people with autism and related disabilities.

Why we chose this charity:

UF CARD is close to my heart. My son was diagnosed with ASD at an early age, and CARD was integral to helping us navigate many of the hurdles those living with autism face. With their help, he is now thriving in his class, getting all A’s, and making friends.

Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary

This charity works cooperatively with a network of other credible animal sanctuaries, govt. agencies, other primate and animal protection organizations, and qualified individuals to find placement for unwanted monkeys and to combat the exploitation and mistreatment of captive primates.

Many of their 300 monkeys suffer from chronic diseases and have physical limitations. 100% of donations go toward the medical, psychological, and behavioral needs of the monkeys and the expenses needed to provide a safe, stimulating, and loving environment.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of North Central Florida

Assists families with seriously ill children being treated at facilities including the Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville and the Ronald McDonald Family Room located at UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital.

Why we chose this charity:

I got excited about supporting the Ronald McDonald House when I was touring because it felt SO doable to make a difference: They request a $15 donation/night/family but no family is ever turned away due to lack of funds; a family’s average stay is 16 days.

Florida's 89.1 WUFT/WJUF-FM

WUFT-FM and WJUF-FM provide 24/7 news and talk to residents in North Central and Mid-Florida. WUFT-FM is a public radio station serving 16 counties in North Central Florida, while WJUF-FM is a repeater station that serves the residents of Citrus, Hernando & Sumter counties.

I generally make charitable contributions to the Wikimedia Foundation and the Electronic Frontier Foundation (both very worthy of support), but for local charities, I like to give to the local public radio station of whatever city we’re in.

GGRC uses music and performance as a platform to encourage self-esteem, self-expression, and community for girls. GGRC offers a week-long summer day camp for regional girls aged 9-17 years old where they receive music instruction by local women musicians and are placed into bands.

The passionate workforce is all volunteer and take the time out of their day jobs to teach music. This is a very cool 501(c)(3) that happens in Gainesville and feels empowering to everyone involved. Plus, the live shows are a lot of fun to attend!

Stand Up To Cancer’s (SU2C) mission is to raise funds to accelerate the pace of groundbreaking research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. SU2C brings together the best and the brightest researchers and mandates collaboration among the cancer community.

I’d like to nominate Stand Up to Cancer because cancer research is obviously a very worthy cause. I know many families like mine have lost loved ones to cancer, and if there’s any chance of finding a cure, I feel strongly about supporting it.
